The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
A Memphis gynecologist who is facing a 23-count federal indictment is being allowed to reopen his clinic.
After his attorneys argued that the public’s need for his expertise in providing very specific surgeries outweighed “alleged and unsubstantiated” claims against him, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar was allowed to reopen the Poplar Avenue Clinic Women’s Health & Med Spa. Kumar is currently facing charges on 23-counts of illegal sex acts and medical misconduct.

He is accused of coercing several women to travel to Memphis between September 2019 and June 2024 to perform illegal sex acts. He is also accused of not properly sterilizing instruments, reusing disposable medical devices, performing unnecessary procedures and insurance fraud.
A judge granted permission for the clinic to reopen for patient visits but stipulated that Kumar may not examine a minor unless it is court authorized, he can only use multi-use devices during procedures, and a chaperone is required for all office exams. He is also not allowed to perform hysteroscopies and must also provide a risk notification to all referring physicians and all new patients.

Over 200 have come forward with complaints against Kumar since the indictment.
