Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

I predict that before long, don’t laugh, Angela Rayner will be Prime Minister. I know it is hard to believe – it would probably be more believable that the earth is flat – but I am putting my money on it.

It will eventually dawn on Labour MPs that Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are sending them to political oblivion. As the next election approaches, panic will set in, and they will desperately search for a new leader.

There is a ridiculously small field to pick from; despite having hundreds of MPs, the choice is extraordinarily limited. There will be enormous pressure to appoint a woman, since unlike other parties they have never had one.

My hunch is that Angela, with her strong backing in the party, will emerge as winner. A staggering choice does not begin to cover it, but nonetheless it could well be so.
