Nobody Is Above the Law™, Except… – HotAir

We are back to the Summer of Love™, with Mostly Peaceful™ protests, complete with firebombings, throwing concrete blocks, masked Antifa decolonizers, and calls to burn down Amerikkka.

The anti-ICE rioting in Los Angeles comes as no surprise, of course. Nor does the rallying around the (Mexican) flag that we see coming from Democrats, who have been ramping up their attacks on ICE–up to and including calls for agents to be doxxed, comparisons to the Gestapo, and applause for violence.

A Los Angeles City Councilwoman has already endorsed attacks on ICE as well as mass acts of vandalism and lawlessness, proving once again that liberals love violence more than they love their homes.

The Pravda Media has gone into full propaganda mode–when are they not in full propaganda mode?–and is blaming all the violence on law enforcement. If only they focused more attention on trying to put Donald Trump in jail for unspecified crimes and less on going after actual criminals, none of this would have happened.

There is a really eerie quality to all these protests, which in many ways make much less logical sense than even the George Floyd riots. While those riots were based on a false premise that the police were hunting innocent black men and marking them for murder, if you believed that premise, then resistance of some kind would make sense. It was a wholly false narrative created to incite the riots, but you could at least see the connection between the assertion and the violence.

These riots, though, strike me as totally bizarre because they are based on the premise that the United States is a uniquely evil place, ruled by fascists. It is so awful that the protesters are flying Mexican flags, often wearing Keffiyehs, and destroying “capitalist” institutions.

Their complaint, though, is that people are being deported from this hellhole of a country.

If America is so evil, why are people going to such great lengths to stay?

None of the illegal alien rioters–and many are not illegal aliens, but Antifa anarchists bent on destroying America–actually want to go back to the countries whose flags they are waving. They simultaneously claim that America is fundamentally evil and that there is no other place in the world they would rather be.

Over the past several years, the Democrats have lectured us in stentorian tones about how “nobody is above the law,” and haven’t meant a word of it. U.S. senators and Congressmen go into full propaganda mode to defend human traffickers and violent gang members, and to encourage violent riots. They applaud assassins who gun down innocent people in the street.

We’ll have to see how many of these “protesters” get prosecuted for their actions–my guess is that if any of them face prosecution, it will be from the feds, not the city, county, or state prosecutors.

That’s because “nobody is above the law” is a slogan, not an actionable principle for the left.
