A Bosnian national who has lived in Chattanooga for years will reportedly enter a plea deal in his passport fraud case after being acquitted of torture during the Bosnian War last month.

Sead Miljkovic, 53, was charged with three counts of torture for the abuse of two Bosnian prisoners when he served as a member of the OBL police force during the conflict in the 1990s, but was found not guilty by a jury in May of this year.

However, Miljkovic was still separately charged with three counts of passport fraud, for which he was supposedly set to stand trial some time in July.

Now, he reportedly intends to plead guilty to one count of fraud for submitting a passport application containing false information in May of 2007 in hopes of having the two other charges dismissed, according to the federal plea agreement.

After several failed attempts to obtain a passport using his real name between 1996 and 1997, Miljkovic then falsely stated his last name was Dukic and used a fake birthday on his passport application.

Then in 2017 he reused the same false information to renew his passport.

Prosecutors have not specified the terms of Miljkovic’s sentence, but the maximum sentence for this charge is 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000. The plea could also result in Miljkovic’s removal from the United States.

Miljkovic has not returned to Bosnia since immigrating to the US over 20 years ago, but the agreement supposedly states that he intends to plead guilty even if the sentence includes deportation.
