An illegal alien was arrested on Sunday and is now facing several charges after a shooting near a vacant home in Putnam County.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to Rock Springs Road after receiving a call reporting approximately five gunshots being heard from a nearby home. The previous resident of the home recently passed away, leaving it unoccupied.

Investigating officers found that the front of the house had six bullet holes in it, and they recovered several bullets at the scene. Witnesses told them they heard gunfire and then saw a black car fleeing the area.

As they were investigating, Baxter Police were conducting a traffic stop on Birdwell Lane.

The driver, 25-year-old Felipe Ruyz Pacheco, allowed officers to search his vehicle. They found 17 spent shell casings from an AR-style rifle, the same type used in the Rock Springs shooting. The gun was located nearby.

Pacheco admitted to police that he fired at the home and then discarded the gun prior to stopping. He also stated that all of the shell casings found in his vehicle belonged to his gun.

Pacheco is charged with reckless endangerment, fabricating/tampering with evidence, and vandalism.

According to PCSO, “it was discovered Pacheco is in the United States illegally. At this time, it is unknown if the name he provided is his true identity.”

He remains jailed and will stay in custody until he is released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
