The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –
Washington D.C. Democrats are pushing two resolutions to censure and condemn Tennessee Republican Congressman Andy Ogles for requesting a federal investigation into Democrat New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani over accusations of ties to terrorist and communist organizations.

Ogles called for Mamdani, a certified member of the Democratic Socialists of America, to be investigated for potential denaturalization by the Department of Justice after evidence surfaced that Mamdani may have withheld or misrepresented information to acquire his U.S. citizenship.
The letter from Ogles provided evidence that Mamdani previously lauded a US-designated terrorist organization and did not disclose his support of communist organizations and ideals, making him theoretically eligible for denaturalization and potentially deportation depending on the severity of the charges should the allegations prove true.

Now, House Democrats are presenting resolutions against Ogles, claiming his statements are Islamophobic, racist, and politically motivated.
The first was introduced by Representative Shri Thanedar of Michigan on June 27 over what Thanedar called a, “racist, bigoted, anti-immigrant tirade,” by Ogles after Mamdani’s victory in the NYC mayoral primary election.
“Immigrants have made our country great, but instead of recognizing this fact, Ogles used numerous anti-immigrant dog whistles against Mamdani, calling him “Little Muhammad” and for him to be deported and stripped of his United States citizenship…As an immigrant myself, I have seen my fair share of racist attacks. Every day, MAGA tells me to go back to India, says I should be deported, and comments on my accent and appearance. But this has no place in the House of Representatives. Representative Ogle’s actions are completely unacceptable, and he should be censured,” wrote Thanedar.
New York Democrat Ritchie Torres has also stated intentions to introduce a resolution condemning Ogles for, “calling upon the attorney general to deport a Muslim-American Democratic nominee simply because he’s Muslim-American…I have a deeply felt obligation to speak out against hate, whether it’s anti-Jewish bigotry or anti-Muslim bigotry.” he stated.

Previously, Torres, who is a self-proclaimed “pro-Israel progressive”, stated Ogles’ claims were an “unacceptable” attack on Mamdani’s faith and citizenship, though notably, Mamdani only attained citizenship in 2018 despite living in the US since the age of seven.
“It is no secret that I have profound disagreements with Zohran Mamdani. But every Democrat — and every decent person — should speak out with moral clarity against the despicable Islamophobic attacks that have been directed at him. Demanding the deportation of an American citizen simply because he is Muslim — or simply because he holds political views different from your own — is not only bigoted. It is profoundly un-American. Bigotry in every form should be rejected unequivocally,” Torres remarked.
But Ogles is standing firm in his beliefs that Mamdani may have violated immigration laws and could be dangerous in espousing anti-American sentiments.
“It’s official: Democrats have crowned Zohran Mamdani as their new rising star, and they’re falling over themselves to defend him. Now they’re pushing a second resolution against me- all because I dared to call out little muhammad’s anti-Western, antisemitic, jihad-communism,” he posted in response to an interview Torres gave on MSNBC.

The first resolution by Shri Thanedar has been referred to the House Committee on Ethics, a “bipartisan standing committee”, to decide upon further action to take, if any. The second by Torres has yet to be officially filed but will likely follow the same path.
