An illegal alien arrested in January for shooting at a Tennessee Highway Patrol in January has been sentenced to prison.
31-year-old Eugenio Abraham Solis Klarks was convicted of attempted first-degree murder and sentenced to eighteen years in prison with no chance for parole.
Solis Klarks was arrested following an incident in which Trooper attempted to issue him a speeding ticket after clocking him going 97 miles-per-hour on Interstate 75 in Loudon County.
During the stop, when asked for his driver’s license, Solis-Klarks instead gave the officer his Guatemalan Counsular Identification Card.
Two additional troopers, Paul Dubroc and Justin Hasse, arrived as backup. Solis Klarks then fled the scene in his vehicle. All three Troopers followed him onto the interstate, where he topped speeds of 100 miles-per-hour.
A short time into the pursuit, Solis Klarks lost control of his vehicle. As Trooper Dubroc approached him, Solis Klarks pulled an assault rifle from his vehicle and aimed it at the officer. Gunfire was exchanged between the two before Solis Klarks attempted to flee again on foot.
Trooper Dubroc was able to stop Solis Klarks after shooting again and striking him in the legs. He was then detained, and officers immediately provided medical assistance.
“This defendant has been held accountable because of the professionalism of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation,” said Knox County District Attorney Charme Allen.
Knox County inmate records show that Solis Klarks has an immigration detainer hold. He will remain in custody until he is released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. An ICE hold most likely means he is in this country illegally.
