The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) recently released a new interactive data map tracking stolen firearms across Davidson County, allowing Nashville residents to see where guns have been stolen from buildings, vehicles, or directly from individuals.

The map displays aggregated statistics of gun-related crime as reported to MNPD, including fatal gunshot injuries, non-fatal gunshot injuries, firearms stolen, firearms recovered and firearms-related arrests.

Tennessee residents can search for timeframe-specific data by police precinct, zip code, or incident type.

Available data backdates to July 1st, 2023.

According to the data map, in the last two years there have been a total of 2,720 firearm theft incidents in the area: 74 firearms stolen directly from individuals, 613 firearms stolen from buildings, and 2,033 firearms stolen out of vehicles.

Within this same time frame, Hermitage has seen the most stolen gun incidents, 519 to be exact.

Midtown Hills has seen 423 stolen gun incidents and several other areas follow close behind with Central Nashville at 413, South Nashville at 403 and North Nashville at 338 incidents.

The most stolen firearms incidents to be reported in one month was 147 in June of this year.

This number includes 7 firearms stolen from individuals, 20 from buildings and 119 from vehicles. The Hermitage precinct makes up the largest part of this number at 41 incidents.

MNPD reports that the number of firearms stolen from vehicles this year alone totaled 541 as of Monday, July 14th.

This is an 18% increase from the same time in 2024.

The number of guns stolen from vehicles in Davidson County in 2024 was 928, a 23% decrease from 2023 and the lowest number since 2019.

“Gun theft poses a real public safety threat by putting firearms in the hands of those intent on committing violent crime,” said MNPD Chief John Drake.

In a press release this week, Chief Drake encouraged Nashville residents to use the data map to be aware of where thefts are occurring and as “a constant reminder” to properly secure their guns and belongings.
