Are Democrats Lurching Into a Winning Strategy on Deportations? Probably Not – HotAir

Democratic-leaning groups Way to Win and Impact Research are polling the issue of immigration in battleground districts and shared the data with Politico.

According to their research, while Democrats can’t dig themselves out of the deep and steep hole they have dug for themselves, there is a way for Democrats to create a Narrative™ that blunts President Trump’s advantage on the issue.

It’s an interesting claim, and even though the groups who conducted the poll are left-leaning, I think the basic claim they are making is likely accurate. All the chaos will not reflect well on the Democrats, but if they can convince enough of the public that President Trump shares some of the blame for the chaos, then his popularity on the issue of immigration will almost certainly decline

A survey of likely voters seeks to offer Democrats a blueprint for how to punch back on an issue that’s vexed them in recent elections: immigration.

The poll, conducted in key 2026 battleground districts by Democratic-leaning groups Way to Win and Impact Research and shared first with POLITICO, argues that Democrats — with the right messaging — can drive down President Donald Trump’s strength on immigration by a net 10 percentage points.

The poll does not shy away from Democrats’ overall poor standing on the issue. Republicans overall have an 11-percentage-point net negative job rating on immigration (43 percent approve versus 54 percent disapprove), but Democrats have a 58-percentage-point net negative rating on the issue (19 percent approve versus 77 disapprove).

Democrats can turn the tide, the message testing found, by playing up Trump’s overreach and disregard for the rule of law that they say threatens citizens and noncitizens alike as he carries out his mass deportations. But many Democrats would rather avoid the topic.

“Coming into and out of the 2024 cycle, Democrats were silent — completely — on immigration,” said Tory Gavito, president of Way to Win. “There was just no response at all. This poll is to show Democrats that when they point out how enforcement has failed, they can attack Trump on one of his most favorable policies.”

This is consistent with my own analysis–which should make you wonder whether I am taking the poll too seriously because it mirrors my instincts!–but that analysis is based on the Democrats being successful in ensuring their narrative settles into the public consciousness.

Up to now, Trump has been winning on the issue, and he still can if he plays his cards right by not letting Democrats and the media set The Narrative™. That is the most important battlefield in this political war. Ironically, defining what the riots mean is a more significant issue than even quelling the riots.

In other words, it is a battle of the propagandists, with the riots as the background images.

This is why every Democrat is emphasizing that all the violence–not that there is any, you know, but if there were…–is Trump’s fault. If only he left the poor, hardworking, salt-of-the-earth MS 13 and Tren de Aragua members alone, then there would be peace in the valley.

Trump’s success with his pro-deportation message was based on the chaos that Biden’s policies promoted. The gang assaults, murders, and millions of immigrants are costing billions of dollars while breaking city budgets. It was terrible optics for Democrats.

Now the images are of cities burning. If the Democrats can pin that on Trump, they will harm his standing. That is the hope, at least, of the Democrats. The competing strategies of the Democrats versus Republicans is perfectly encapsulated by this video:

The Democratic Senators want the image to be of the authoritarian Trump administration manhandling a US Senator; Republicans want to see a US Senator behaving like a rioter and having to be restrained lest he attack Secretary Noem.

Everyone knows this is all performative.

What is security supposed to do when a random man interrupts a live press conference while aggressively yelling at a cabinet member? How is anyone supposed to know that it was just a Senator attempting a stunt for publicity instead of a real threat?

After they realized he was a US Senator, he was released and met with Noem privately to discuss the concerns he had. Which he could have done in the first place.

We all know who the media will back, of course, and their influence may tip the balance with some suburban women. Or it might not. They want peace, love, and compassion more than anything else, and the war of words will be about who is breaking the peace.

The riots in Los Angeles were aimed not just at law enforcement, but at American culture and society itself.

Rioters burned American flags, chanted “death to ICE,” and spray-painted anti-American slogans on buildings.

But President Trump will NEVER allow mob rule to prevail in America.

The most basic duty of government is to preserve law and order, and the Trump Administration embraces that sacred responsibility.

Radical Democrats like Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass shamefully failed to meet their sworn obligation to their citizens. They didn’t have the courage to do the right thing and protect law-abiding Californians from rioters.

That’s why President Trump deployed the National Guard and mobilized Marines to end the chaos and restore law and order.

The mob violence is being stomped out, the criminals responsible are being swiftly brought to justice, and the Trump Administration’s operations to arrest illegal aliens are continuing unabated.

The battle lines are set, and the field of battle is in the information sphere. It will take place on TV, TikTok, X, and Facebook. Quelling the riots matters a lot–if Trump can successfully suppress them without too many images the media can manipulate, it will make a huge difference. But I suspect that we will endure another “Summer of Love” because the Democrats and their allies are pouring resources into stirring up trouble, up to and including paying people to commit violence.

California Democratic Party Faces Scrutiny Over Brick Purchase Amidst LA Protests

By Jonathan Gregory Los Angeles, CA — June 11  2025

A recent review of the California Democratic Party’s May 2025 expense report has uncovered a significant and controversial expenditure: the purchase of 200 pallets of construction-grade bricks. Notably, this acquisition lacks any associated construction plans or public documentation, raising questions about its intended use. The absence of a clear purpose for such a substantial purchase has prompted calls for transparency and accountability from both political opponents and watchdog organizations.

The timing of this purchase coincides with widespread protests in Los Angeles, which erupted in early June following aggressive immigration enforcement actions by the Trump administration. These demonstrations have been marked by clashes between protesters and law enforcement, with reports indicating that some individuals have thrown bricks during the unrest. While there is no direct evidence linking the pallets purchased by the Democratic Party to the incidents in Los Angeles, the proximity of these events has intensified public scrutiny.

In response to the controversy, the California Democratic Party has stated that the brick purchase was intended for future infrastructure projects. However, without detailed documentation or a clear plan, the justification for such a significant expenditure remains unconvincing to many. As investigations continue, the incident underscores the need for greater transparency in political party expenditures, especially when such purchases coincide with sensitive and volatile events.

Trump and the Republicans have to lay the blame at the Democrats’ feet, and that means FBI investigations into the funding, creating viral social media posts exposing the Democrats’ perfidy, and emphasizing that the rioters are carrying the flags of foreign countries and, in some cases, terrorist groups.

The riots won’t stop until the Democrats pay a significant political price, because the Democrats believe they can make Trump pay a big price for “creating” chaos.

Democrats don’t care that real people are being hurt by the riots. They just want to win. To them, it is a war, and the civilians are just collateral damage.

Editor’s Note: President Trump will not allow lawlessness to reign in America. We will not have a repeat of 2020’s “Summer of Love.”
