Ed lays out the case that there was likely a cover-up of Biden’s cancer while he was president.
The case is so strong, in fact, that Dr. Zeke Emmannuel–Rahm’s brother–asserts that there is no way that Biden hasn’t had prostate cancer for years and that any competent doctor would have tested for it.
He asserted this, of all places, on Morning Joe. Which brings up the question: if Biden and his medical team almost certainly knew that Joe had cancer, why reveal it now?

How do we know–and how does a doctor confidently assert–that this cancer diagnosis almost certainly can’t be recent? Simple: if you are a male and live long enough, the chances of getting prostate cancer are asymptotically close to 100%, so any competent doctor would test for this, and a White House doctor absolutely would test for this. Joe Biden was old when he entered the White House, and quite old when he left.
He was tested for cancer. And since prostate cancer–even “aggressive” prostate cancer–does not metastasize into the bones in months–it’s unlikely that the disease could be missed for so long.
Everybody is rightly focused on the cover-up because it is part of a pattern of lies. The White House certainly knew about Biden’s mental decline and lied. They knew about his spinal degeneration–it was so bad that they planned to put him in a wheelchair after the election, yet told everybody he was so fit he ran circles around his aides. And it is difficult to believe that they–at least Biden and the family–didn’t know and lie about his cancer.
So the cover-up, while vital because we need to hold the liars accountable, is less interesting politically than why the lid was lifted at this moment.
The answer is as political as the reason for the cover-up. They covered the cancer up because they wanted Biden reelected, ensuring that Kamala Harris could take Biden’s place. They lifted the cover-up because Biden is getting hammered in the media, Jake Tapper’s and Alex Thompson’s book is coming out this week, and the Democratic Party is being severely damaged by all the revelations.

Biden’s news seemed to, for a short time at least, break through Washington’s current fierce divides. Among those quickly offering support was his immediate predecessor and successor in the White House.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” said President Donald Trump on Truth Social, his social media platform. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Also quick to comment was Biden’s former vice president, Kamala Harris.
“Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery,” she wrote in a post on X.
The diagnosis’ revelation came as Democrats were publicly grappling with new questions about Biden’s mental acuity throughout the last two years of his presidency, which culminated in a disastrous debate performance and his decision to drop out of the 2024 campaign.
David Axelrod, the longtime Democratic operative and former Barack Obama adviser, said on CNN minutes after the diagnosis was revealed that conversations about Biden’s mental acuity “should be more muted and set aside for now as he’s struggling through this.”
Biden has good reason to accommodate the desire of the Democrats to change the subject: he is very sensitive about any criticisms of his presidency and is seeing his legacy and his family trashed. Democrats need the subject changed because everybody was in on the deception, and it is hurting their standing with the public.
Everybody had good reasons for a cover-up, and everybody has good reasons to end the cover-up.
This brings up yet a third issue: did Biden seek treatment? There is circumstantial evidence that he WAS being treated.
Many people have been noting what appeared to be IV insertion bruises on his hands for years. I have noted these and kinda-sorta dismissed the comments because there was no way to know why those bruises were there, and if they indeed were from an IV, they might be related to the rumors that Biden was being fed uppers to increase his stamina before major events. It was all speculation.
Not making a diagnosis here, but those marks on Mr. Biden’s hand do resemble the residua of punctures. Usually blood draws are done from the antecubital (inside of elbow) vein. Intravenous lines are often inserted in the hands.

If it is true that Biden was being treated, it would add another twist to an already twisted story. You would think that somebody in the media would have looked into the regularly appearing bruises that suggested IV use, but in this case, they probably didn’t want to know and took the White House’s assurances at face value. I doubt the media would have covered up a cancer diagnosis in the way they did Biden’s mental decline because there would be physical evidence.

It would hardly be shocking for a White House to keep a diagnosis like this under wraps. The most famous case is that of Woodrow Wilson, and FDR’s severe decline in 1944 was papered over. John F. Kennedy was plagued by serious health problems and was hopped up on drugs for much of the time, and there are allegations that Reagan was declining in his sunset years.
That doesn’t make it right; it’s just not shocking.

There is going to be a race to define what the revelation of Biden’s cancer diagnosis tells us about the Biden years. Some people are going to see yet another cover-up, while others will insist that it is uncouth to discuss a dying man’s health troubles in a political context.
How you see it depends on how you see Joe Biden and his enablers. Do you want Biden’s mental decline to be put on the back burner, or do you want to nail the people who saddled the country with a senile, sick old man?
Jake Tapper sure hopes that the first group will win the argument. He has a book to sell.
