Democrat Governors Are Dropping Medicaid for Illegals While Criticizing Trump for… – HotAir

Democrats are having screaming fits about Republicans cutting Medicaid benefits for illegal aliens, who are costing tens of billions of dollars.

Also: Democrat governors are cutting millions of illegal aliens off of state Medicaid and other health insurance programs because they are costing tens of billions of dollars and thus making providing healthcare for citizens increasingly difficult.

Gavin Newsom, who has decided to speed into the “moderate, perhaps even conservative” lane of the Democratic race for the nomination, has come out in favor of kicking illegals out of the MediCal program, and Governor Walz–you know, that guy who wanted to be the beta-male Vice President who could code-talk to men in flyover country–just agreed to kick illegal aliens out of Minnesota’s programs.

Progressives here don’t like that, and are throwing a tantrum.

On the national level, the Democrats think they have a winning issue, and are working the Medicaid cut angle as much as they can.

And because the Democrats are in the minority, they can do it with impunity. They talk about cuts without specifying exactly WHAT is being cut, and they bank on people confusing Medicare and Medicaid. Many people don’t know the difference and think Trump and the Republicans are kicking seniors to the curb.

But in states run by Democrats, it’s not so easy. Cutting off illegal aliens is a fiscal necessity, not a willful act of cruelty. Dollars are not infinitely available, and American taxpayers shouldn’t shoulder the burden for everybody who manages to cross the border while abandoning their citizens.

In an ideal world, resources would be infinite, and Captain Picard would have thrown Wesley Crusher off the bridge the first moment he stepped foot on it, but we don’t live in that world. Even the most kindhearted people who think Mother Teresa is the model for all our behavior still don’t empty their bank accounts, sell their homes, and live among the poor.

In other words, none of us is willing to bear every burden in the world based on abstract moral principles. We pick and choose what we can do.

Progressives don’t see it that way exactly. By this, I don’t mean that they actually go live among the poor to provide succor for the poor; no, what they do is demand that everybody else do so. Their contribution to the well-being of others is throwing tantrums.

What is striking is how this attitude has become common not only among a fringe group of progressives, but is now common–if not a majority–in Democratic political circles. Congressmen get up and scream at the State of the Union address, legislators refuse to show up to work (for two weeks, Democrats refused to attend House sessions here in Minnesota), and throw protests on the floors of legislatures, and bang drums and try to storm gubernatorial press conferences whenever they are unhappy.

It’s as childish as any toddler throwing a tantrum when Mommy or Daddy won’t feed them all the candy they want or buy that $300 toy they fell in love with.

Adults don’t behave this way.
