Duffy Tells Blue City Mayors, ‘You Let Them Break It? You Bought It’ – HotAir

Holy SMOKES

Every time I turn around, it seems like another one of Trump’s cabinet picks is doing or saying something that just blows the doors off of any predecessor.

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, who has been literally under a trial by fire since practically the day he was sworn in (unlike the missing-in-action for four years Mayor Pete), came out with a barnburner yesterday after President Trump’s deportation announcement.

They do love to chip away at things so they have handy chunks of concrete to throw at police.

It makes you wonder how much of the debris that rained down on those LA police cars was carried in for that purpose and how much was spontaneously cracked off of the bridge’s structure? Whatever holes and cracks were left when those chunks came out of the overpass, as of right now, will be on the Los Angeles repair tab.

The justification is pretty simple: as sanctuary cities used rioters as a blocking mechanism to impede and prevent federal law enforcement from carrying out lawful immigration procedures, those jurisdictions are responsible for damages caused during the riots.

Because the elected officials of California and Los Angeles sympathized with the protesters, they gave them the latitude to act against federal facilities and law enforcement, offering no assistance to besieged federal officers.

President Trump made his goals for deportation of illegals perfectly clear in the wake of riots in LA and elsewhere. To much impotent gnashing of progressive governors and mayors’ teeth, the federal government, Trump said, would redouble its efforts.

…“We must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside,” he went on. “These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base.”

This latest salvo from Duffy is nothing new, though. It’s only reinforcing his original stand from back in April. The Secretary of Transportation was quite clear about tying federal DOT funds to ICE and immigration cooperation even before overpass and bollard chunks began flying. He sent around an official notice to all DOT grant recipients about following the ‘letter of the law,’ which meant ALL laws, in order to remain eligible for federal funds.

LETTER OF THE LAW, BABY

April 24, 2025

2025.04.24 DOT: Follow the Law Letter to Recipients of DOT Grant Funding

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy issued a “Follow the Law” letter to federal transportation funding recipients stating that they are “obligated to comply fully with all applicable Federal laws and regulations . . . including cooperating with and not impeding [ICE and DHS] in the enforcement of Federal immigration law.” The letter states that lack of cooperation includes “declin[ing] to cooperate with ICE investigations,” “issu[ing] driver’s licenses to individuals present in the United States in violation of Federal immigration law,” and “otherwise act[ing] in a manner that impedes Federal law enforcement.” Additionally, DOT “expects its recipients to ensure that the Federal financial assistance they receive from DOT is provided only to subrecipients, businesses, or services providers that are U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals and Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) or legal entities allowed to do business in the U.S. and which do not employ illegal aliens.”

Failure to comply with these “legal obligations” could result in a loss of DOT funding.2

How this will fare in our twisted court system the first time Duffy applies it?

Well, a judge in Hawaii is no doubt already working on his opinion for a TRO in order to beat out a progressive judge from Northern California in issuing the first one.

Predictably, Newsom’s unctuous head is exploding.

ORANGE MAN SO MEAN AND HITLER

…Trump’s announcement quickly prompted backlash from top Dem pols.

“His plan is clear: Incite violence and chaos in blue states, have an excuse to militarize our cities, demonize his opponents, keep breaking the law and consolidate power. It’s illegal and we will not let it stand,” Newsom fumed on X.

But surprisingly, even with all the Mexican flags waving gaily in the turgid smoke from barbequed Waymos and waves of tear-gas vapors washing over the crowds, it seems citizens who claim Hispanic origins and vote in the United States are less and less impressed with the theatrics.

In what must absolutely chap some pasty white progressive hides, Hispanics love what they’re hearing from the muy malo hombre naranja.

They’re all for it.

A majority of Hispanic voters back core elements of the Trump administration’s deportation policy according to a poll released Monday that was conducted after the Los Angeles riots began.

Nearly six in 10 registered voters surveyed — including a majority of Hispanic voters and nearly half of voters under 25 — support the administration’s policy increasing the “pace of deportations … prioritizing individuals with criminal records,” according to an online poll from League of American Workers (LAW) and TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics (TIPP) obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Notably, 53% of Hispanic voters as well as 49% of voters between the ages of 18-24 indicated they somewhat or strongly supported increasing the pace of deportations, the LAW/TIPP poll found. President Donald Trump made significant gains in the 2024 election among young and Hispanic voters — particularly among men of both demographics. Just under half — 46% — of black voters polled said they supported the policy. Black Americans have long backed the Democratic Party but trended to the right in the 2024 election in which Trump won over 20% black male voters, according to a CNN exit poll.

AY DIOS MIO

It’s enough to make someone so frustrated they want to throw another rock, wouldn’t you think?

Probably ought to be more careful where it comes from and what they aim for from this point forward.

It could cost them.
