I Hate This, Even Though I Expected It to Happen – HotAir

Race relations took a nasty turn ever since Obama elevated race as a controlling factor in politics. Polling data shows a dramatic shift downward in race relations during Obama’s second term, and the trend has continued since then.

The rise of identity politics over the past decade has poisoned the well. Blacks think much more poorly of whites, and over time, whites have begun to return the favor. It’s gotten to the point where Democrats’ reflex is to scream HITLER! Every time a Republican speaks, then go on a rant about RACISM, SEXISM, and HOMOPHOBIA.

“The sky is blue.” Racist!

Republicans used to cower in fear, worried that they would be accused of racism no matter what they said or did; now it has become a joke. “That’s racisss.”

Unfortunately, it isn’t a joke at all, because along with the decline of race relations and especially the steady stream of attacks aimed at whites as being the cause of all things evil, a subset of white people have entirely given up and are going into backlash mode.

Racial sensitivity is now coded as leftist, rather than politeness and recognition that individuals are not, in fact, mere representations of their race. The consequence is that the “white identity” movement really is coming out of the closet.

I’m not going to defend the claim that racism against whites is rampant. If you are too stupid to see it then there is no convincing you that it is there. It is pervasive, getting more aggressive, and is now one of the dominant ideologies in our schools, especially our universities. “White people bad” is the air you breathe in elite institutions.

My concern is the growing “black people are bad” backlash.

I have long expected this. It is a natural consequence of identity politics, after all. If our race is the defining characteristic, then it would be as natural for whites to band together as for blacks, Asians, or any other group. And groups that feel under threat don’t generally respond well to bullying.

So here comes the case of Shiloh Hendrix, a Minnesota woman who gained fame for calling a black child a “ni**er” after an ambiguous confrontation over sharing a toy. Not having been there, I can’t really comment on the interactions between the two young children who tussled, but children tussling over toys is hardly unusual.

Caution: NSFW.

That a random white woman used a racial slur on a playground is hardly news worthy of national discussion. In a country of over 330 million people, any random awful thing will happen, even in a tony Minnesota town like Rochester, Minnesota.

What IS worthy of discussion is the fact that there has been an outburst of support for Hendrix, and she is well on her way to raising a million dollars to support her family.

Her original goal was modest–I don’t have the exact figure, but something like $20,000. Not that it matters. What does is that the money came flooding in so fast that the goal has steadily risen to the point where $1 million seems attainable.

It is the inverse of the Karmelo Anthony fundraiser, in which a black kid is being rewarded for killing a white one. Hendrix’s offense if hardly the same thing, of course, but the impulse to reward bad behavior because of racial identity is horrible, no matter who the perpetrators are or what they did.

Look up Shiloh’s name on X and you will find a flood of people flocking to support her, with plenty of them pointing out horrible things about black people. You will get crime states, hate crime videos, whites being beaten up by blacks, and the inevitable (and correct) pointing out of the hypocrisy of liberals who celebrate black people insulting whites because of their race.

Shiloh hurled a slur at a child. That may not be the worst crime in the world, but it is hardly praiseworthy. Adults should not mistreat children, even if they are angry. That Hendrix is being showered with money as payback for wrongs committed by black people depresses me.

All this is, in a word, horrible. It is also an inevitable consequence of identity politics. Most whites are tired of being trashed for the color of their skin and are rightly irritated by it, just as any other group being tarred for sharing an immutable characteristic that has nothing to do with whether they are good or bad people.

Also NSFW:

When blacks are insulted for the color of their skin, they are right to be outraged, or at least annoyed. That is true for Asians, Hispanics, whites, and Native Americans. It’s stupid, offensive, and destructive to society.

The backlash to the elevation of identity is here, and it will get ugly.
