This has been a busy week for Knox County police when it comes to detaining individuals who are in this country illegally. KCSO has detained 46 individuals this week, with 24 coming on Monday alone.
With none of the 46 individuals having criminal charges listed, it is safe to assume they are being transferred through the jail to be released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is one several counties in the state that currently participates in the “287 G” program.
As a part of that program, the jail may be used as a holding facility for illegal aliens who are arrested elsewhere and are now awaiting transfer to ICE.
