Dear Editor
Please pass on my sympathies to Liz Hodgkinson (TCW, Monday) over the ‘social difficulties’ she is having with some of her less well-educated friends. So many of us are having this problem. I am about to face it with a couple for whom I was best man and have known him since he was 12 in the late 70s. They just won’t see it despite being intelligent people. If conversation strays into areas that matter, I am afraid there is going to be a falling out. Especially as they spend half their lives in Florida and only the summer half in the UK. I keep telling them to stay in the US. They won’t have it. They actually prefer England and Starmer to the US and Donald.
I also know of entire families at loggerheads where their younger generation (25-45) simply won’t accept their parents’ advice (mostly fathers) as to the stupidity of the current vaccines, climate crisis and Net Zero nonsense.
Liz is not alone; we just have to wait and pray.
