Dear Editor
I read some time ago that wind turbines are constructed of approximately 300 metric tonnes of high grade carbon steel . . . how wrong was that memory?
Leave aside the logistics of rare earth minerals used in the construction of the magnets and generators internally, which obviously cause huge damage to soil, water tables and insect life.
A tonne of carbon steel requires approximately 700kg of coal to smelt it. So a thousand tonnes of steel requires 700 tonnes of coal. Almost all steel used in turbine construction is manufactured in China or India, which both use very low grade coal from vast open cast mines (like lithium mines) which devastate landscapes. This new steel is put on huge container ships which mainly use crude oil as fuel and shipped thousands of miles.
The so called ‘carbon footprint’ must be vast.
Turbines cost millions to manufacture and install and maintain. This money is never reclaimed in the electricity it generates in a 20-year lifespan, and less if it fails.
The used 300ft-plus blades are dumped in fields or landfill after their 5-10 year lifespan. They are totally non-recyclable, as are the batteries used to store power or electric vehicles. The subsidies are the only reason they are still turning.
This is a crime almost as bad as the actions of Sir Keir Starmer who seems intent on following orders from way above his pay grade in the Globalist blob.
All I know is that the world I love and cherish is being sold by the lb, or 454 grams if you insist on the European trash.
Starmer and his front bench are traitors, enacting treason upon the people. King Charles is spineless and weak, or is he on the payroll too?
Miliband . . . how many billion pounds can one man waste?
It makes Neil Ferguson look like a right parsimonious fellow in comparison given his outrageous and inept computer models have cost tens of billions and how many lives?
If civil war isn’t coming, I’ll eat my straw boater . . . with barbecue sauce of course.
Toby
