Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

The Supreme Court has ruled that biological sex determines a person’s rights under UK equality law, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission has ruled that biological men who identify as women should not be allowed to use the women’s facilities at work and in public facilities. As a result, Holyrood ordered ‘male-only’ and ‘female-only’ facilities to be provided alongside gender-neutral ones. Three former SNP ministers, Joe FitzPatrick, Emma Roddick and Elena Whitham, were among 16 MSPs to sign an open letter attacking the ban on transgender women using female toilets and changing rooms in Holyrood. Others were Alex Cole-Hamilton, Monica Lennon, Mercedes Villalba and all seven Green MSPs. It will be interesting to record which toilets these MSPs use. It is a pity that they cannot be banned from the Scottish Parliament for refusing to recognise the law and effectively encouraging others to break it. Their day of reckoning will be the Scottish Parliament election next May which will provide that opportunity, especially as 50 per cent of those voting are women.
