Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

As we all know, Net Zero and green or renewable policies are crippling the nation, unnecessarily inflating the cost of energy and thus the cost of living for all and for a flawed programme which cannot possibly be delivered, nor make any difference whatsoever to the earth’s climate!

But have readers heard of the UK100? It’s an organisation that has been set up (by an MP) to connect a network of ‘ambitious councils’ working together to tackle climate change.

The simple fact that this organisation even exists at all is one thing, but the fact that they target local councils to encourage them to work together in delivering Net Zero ahead of the government’s own ridiculous 2030 target is another thing altogether.

It all sounds very rosy and wonderful on their website at UK100.org and councils have a choice whether to sign up free of charge or have a paid membership. Currently they receive funding from membership fees, the European Climate Foundation and their Business Supporters Network.

Did you vote for your local councils to waste valuable time and your taxpayers money on a totally pie-in-the-sky scheme? I know I didn’t.

The UK100 boasts a range of support for either full (paid) or ally (free) membership. All of which will divert council officials and staff from doing their core jobs to deliver efficient and cost-effective services to support their constituents and communities. Instead they will be taking part in webinars, training or seminars which will simply add further costs! Not to mention the costs of any decisions that are made or projects that are influenced to adopt.

Some councils have even created Net Zero or green jobs at huge expense to the local taxpayers. Do you see your council tax rising every year, yet services are lacking, local infrastructure crumbling, dirty pavements and streets? I wonder why? I also wonder just what the true cost is?

Has your council signed up? Check this link to find out.

For me, this is just another scheme to milk taxpayers money via our local council tax on the Net Zero gravy train. It’s a disgrace and should be stopped.
