U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are collecting illegal aliens who are arrested in Davidson County in record numbers.

Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall reports that ICE more than four times the number of inmates by this time last year, with numbers steadily increasing.

“A year ago in February out of the entire month, 11 times that month they came and picked someone up. This February 44 times,” Hall said

He added that March numbers were eight times what they were in 2024.

Hall says law enforcement officials are not arresting more illegal aliens than before, but ICE agents are picking up more of those individuals to begin the process of deportation.

When an individual is arrested, ICE uses fingerprint data to check their immigration status. If a person is undocumented, police will release the inmate to ICE.

An immigrant detainer can be placed on individuals arrested for any crime, even if they have not been convicted. If the person is convicted of murder, they will serve their sentence here and then be deported.

Nashville currently has a few ICE agents handling all of the cases, but they have enlisted the help of federal agencies such as the FBI and the DEA to handle the large number of cases.
