The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –
After the U.S. Supreme Court set a defining precedent in upholding Tennessee’s law banning “gender-affirming” medical treatments for minors, one federal Representative has an eye on taking the law to the next level.
Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles plans to craft legislation modeled after his home state’s after the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in United States v Skrmetti that Tennessee’s law protecting children by restricting practitioners from prescribing puberty blockers or hormones or performing sex change operations for minors does not violate the equal protection act of the 14th Amendment.
When interviewed by Fox 17 News, Ogles elaborated on his position that protecting children from potentially irreversible mutilations is a national issue, not just a state concern.
The congressman said, “When it comes to protecting children, that is an issue facing everybody in this country. So, we’re not talking about states’ rights here, we’re talking about protecting children. Children being victimized by doctors, being victimized by woke governors, being victimized by woke systems.”
Though his bill is still a work in progress, Ogles stated that after “Tennessee led the way so states across America could end gender ‘affirming’ child abuse,” his aim is to “lead the fight in Congress” as he believes kids in “wackadoodle” states like California need better protection.
Ogles did not indicate if or when his legislation could be ready for filing, especially as Congress’ focus appears to currently be concentrated on passing President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act before July 4th.
