Entire Shill farms sought to control the dialog on it. And they all failed, and the conspiracy ultimately decided it was best to simply shut the site down, even though in doing so it will lose its control over all of the posters on it, who are now scattered to the wind. Even the most powerful intelligence forces in the world found, when dealing with our kind, you cannot stop the signal.
Also, whatever climax it is they are trying to seize control over the online dialog for, it must be drawing close if they finally shut 4Chan down.
