If you like to indulge in counterfactuals, consider this: where would we be if the 2024 election had a different outcome? Let’s posit that Joe Biden had refused to debate a “convicted felon” a year ago rather than bait Donald Trump into an early CNN event. Or even if he had, posit that Democrats had insisted on an open process to nominate someone other than the utterly incompetent Kamala Harris, to whom we will return in a moment either way.
What would our country look like today?
Make no mistake — any other nominee than Harris might have had a chance against Trump, even Biden as long as the Protection Racket Media kept up its Weekend At Bernie’s coverage of his presidency. A few months of forced admissions about Biden’s senility may color our memories, but even after the June 27 debate, the media kept up its attempts to cover up the scope of the cover-up and argue that Biden was still competent enough to remain in office. Without that debate, the establishment propaganda orgs would have carried him to a second term.
Perhaps especially without Biden, Democrats could have pulled it off. Had they allowed Democrat governors like Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsom et al to compete for delegates in an open convention, Harris would never have prevailed. The refusal to open up that process in July was designed to prevent Harris from rising to the top of the ticket. An ‘outsider’ at the top might have generated the enthusiasm that initially went to Harris, and who wouldn’t have dissipated it by avoiding reporters and choosing Gov. JazzHands McSnitchLine as a running mate.
Had that happened, we would be living in a country where “fact checkers” would continue to scold Biden critics about “cheap fakes” and “childhood stutters.” The Big Tech-Big Government Censorship Complex would have a new lease on life, charged once again with shutting down dissent and debate under the myth of “misinformation.” Perhaps more importantly, the southern border would still be wide open, foreign criminal rings would still operate with impunity, and sanctuary cities would still protect them rather than the citizens they govern.
The riots in Los Angeles and the Democrats’ opposition to ICE operations make that crystal clear. Kamala Harris made it even more explicit yesterday. As leftists rioted under Mexican and Palestinian banners, Harris issued a statement not of calm but to defend the violence as a response to the legitimate enforcement of immigration law:
Yes. Imagine that being the response from a president to attacks on her own officers in the streets of Los Angeles. After all, Harris finally did promise to do something about the border crisis that she and Joe Biden created the previous four years, once it became clear that Trump had a winning argument on illegal immigration. We would be treated to a government that officially cast violent obstruction of law enforcement as “overwhelmingly peaceful,” in the nonsense DoubleSpeak of the Left. And we would get lectures on how “public safety” depended on never enforcing the law in order to appease radicals who would otherwise get violent as extortion to access political power.
Laying down for terrorists and allowing laws to be ignored with impunity, even when voters want them enforced by at least a 70/30 margin. That’s the Kamala Harris Way, and it is apparently now Democrat doctrine.
Meanwhile, someone else who calls SoCal home read Harris the riot act today, almost literally. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco called Harris’ statement “an embarrassment” and accused her and Gavin Newsom of “gaslight[ing]” the country:
President Trump didn’t start these riots. He’s not out there lighting cars on fire, hurling projectiles at law enforcement or blocking freeways. This statement is an embarrassment and does nothing to diffuse the violent riots taking place across the city.
