What do we want the “Great Experiment” to look like when we celebrate our 250th in two short years? Never before was a nation formed with the Declaration that,
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.
And then have a Governing Constitution which starts with,
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America”
We established 3 separate but equal branches of Government… 13 states with a process to add more with each having its own 3 branches of government with independence while falling under a federal system when it’s applicable…while our founding fathers were wise men, they knew that the future would be filled with situations they could not even imagine in their dreams, or nightmares, just as many of us growing up in the 80’s could never imagine a small device in our pocket replacing everything from encyclopedias to newspapers to classrooms…not always good but a reality. We survived one civil war that was brutal and took decades to recover, rebuild, and move forward. Today our society is divided and while what occurred in the 1800’s had a defined victory through military battles, we are faced with ideological and emotional divides…which has a more complicated process in order to restore peace as there is no defined last battle or land to conquer/defend. In order to transform an individual’s heart to peace/respect/civility/ and understanding we must turn back to our origins, the men and women who came to The New World seeking something better. These brave individuals had one thing in common…they believed in God. They believed God had the ultimate authority over all…over Kings, Presidents, over local Governments, and over their own individual lives. We failed in teaching the truth about who we are as a people…not to all agree on everything, not to all see things the same way but to be unified in a belief in a higher power… “Our Creator”, as written in our Declaration of Independence. If we start there… and truly understand what God has given us and what we, as His children are called to be,…we reduce the anger towards one another and work towards being a part of God’s family first, and then part of the American family second…and then we sit down together, pray, and then share our hearts and work towards a better, more civil tomorrow with Domestic Tranquility as mentioned in our Constitution. Let’s start today and then maybe in two years we can truly celebrate a very special 250th birthday of the Greatest Nation. One Nation Under God. Amen 🙏
