Pravda Media Covering for Mamdani

Well, now that Zohran Mamdani has become the frontrunner, the Pravda Media has decided to have fun storming the castle alongside him.

First came the onslaught of pieces decrying “Islamophobia,” and now come the claims that Mamdani is just a smidge to the left of Joe Lieberman, not a raging communist as he appears to be.

Now, to be fair, Mamdani hasn’t been spending time in exile in Berlin, plotting to take down the Czar. Nobody put him on a secret rail car to Moscow to start a revolution. He took plane rides from Uganda to America instead, and is the child of a Columbia University anthropologist/professor of government, and an award-winning filmmaker mother–an easier path to power.

Mamdani is a Democratic Socialist, by his own lights, but if you go read the DSA website, it’s clear that they are communists, not welfare state advocates. Why quibble about words?

The Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with over 80,000 members and chapters in all 50 states. We believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few.

In other words, no private ownership–everything is done “democratically.” Just like how every communist country has always been a “People’s Republic” or “Democratic Republic,” right? East Germany was the “Democratic Republic of Germany.” According to Politifact, it would be unfair to say it was communist, right?

It’s “Democratic!” It’s Democratic in the way that any system that gives power to the 51% to steal from the 49%.

Politifact was quite offended by Trump calling Mamdani a communist–and despite, as far as I can tell, Politifact ignoring that Trump and MAGA have been called every name in the book without fact-checking, they rushed to Mamdani’s defense. I looked up whether they ever fact-checked the claim that Trump is a fascist, and from what I found, I have to assume not. There are two fact checks with the word “fascist.”

I suppose they simply assume that no fact-checking is necessary because the accusation must be true…

Yet, Mamdani is quite clear that he hates capitalism and admires communism. He makes no secret of it.

Now it is fair to say that Mamdani’s policy proposals are not exclusive to communists–idiots from other parts of the left have proposed things like rent freezes and government grocery stores–but just because radical lefties who might not be exactly COMMUNIST have made similar proposals, that doesn’t mean they aren’t part of the communist program that Mamdani is pursuing.

It’s the “Hitler loves dogs” fallacy. There can be overlaps in a Venn Diagram.

Accusing Democrats of being communists or communist sympathisers is a frequent misleading attack line by some Republicans. It is a red scare tactic that has existed in U.S. politics for decades, but has been transformed by the success of some democratic socialists, including U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

Mamdani made national headlines June 24 after former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo conceded the primary. When the city completes the ranked choice voting process, Mamdani is expected to win. Mamdani’s office did not respond to our requests for comment.

In November, Mamdani will face Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, the founder of civilian crime-fighting group Guardian Angels, and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent. Cuomo left open the door to running as an independent.

Unfortunately, ever since the 1950s, the accusation that one is a communist has no sting. Anti-anti-communism won out in the ideological wars, and the liberals will defend anyone accused of being a communist regardless of whether they are. Many liberals don’t even think being a communist is wrong–they do evil things for good reasons, not yucky ones, so it is OK to murder people by the million.

Mamdani has no murderous intent, as far as I can tell, although Robespierre didn’t either, early in his path to power. He even opposed the death penalty, believe it or not. Instead, Mamdani believes that violence is a social construct and the police need to be abolished, all for our own good.

Robespierre rose to power based on his reputation for impeccable virtue, and people are flocking to Mamdani for similar reasons. His intentions are good, and besides, he is good-looking, just like Luigi Mangione and the Boston Marathon Bomber.

Sexy stuff.

Leftists find an almost sexual pleasure in the lure of power. That social construct–violence–gets them off, or at the very least doesn’t put them off.

And Mamdani, as much as he is into protests and shouting, hasn’t hurt anyone. Rather than being a martyr to the cause, he can be part of the vanguard of the proletariat.

Of course, I don’t fear that Zohran Mamdani is going to lead an actual revolution. Antifa is there for that. He is part of the “Long March Through the Institutions” side of communism. Hollowing out liberal society from within, not attacking it from without.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a communist. He most surely is.
