First, I must state that we crossed the Rubicon when burning Jews alive on American streets (calling them Zionists (wink, wink) became the next norm to be breached. Read along and understand exactly how we arrived at this sad day.
People’s utter detachment from issues vital to their health and well-being is staggering. Encouraged by my Dad to understand politics, my present for my 8th birthday was a subscription to Human Events, the Washington Political Newspaper of its time. Maybe not what I wanted, but it started me on the right path. I can say, with utter veracity, that politics today is as contentious then as now, with brief interludes in between when certain elected officials put the country’s needs first above party politics. Those interludes are infrequent indeed.
If I had to use a single word to describe today’s politics, it would be—breathless. There are so many issues and vested interests heaped upon so much inaccurate information that no wonder we’ve lost the trust and understanding of what good government even looks like. Conducting the people’s business today seems to be an afterthought. There are too many moving pieces and too much stark distrust for any semblance of good government to take place. It’s a miracle that we are still standing and a testament to our country’s inherited wealth and power, allowing it to maintain enough momentum not to have collapsed already.
Why America Isn’t Limitless:-
America is not a perpetual motion machine. It is governed like all things by physical laws overriding all the nonsense politicians spout. The physics governing unsteady states frequently falls under the science of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. All imbalances ultimately fail, often catastrophically. This is precisely where our system of government is at the moment. We do not have an unlimited amount of time to fix ourselves.
Every person, entity, or government has a maximum span of control. At the top is a firehose of issues constantly demanding attention; logically, there are first-order issues that should take priority but frequently don’t. Today, I’d like to share with you my list of these issues that, as a country, if we don’t prioritize them soon, we’ll pass a point of no return. That’s the reality of everything in life; nothing is assured, especially if we allow chaos to dictate our actions. With this in mind, here are the nine first-order issues that our country must prioritize to ensure our continued existence:
- Law and Order—no society can function without the certainty of consistent, fair, and even-handed application of law. Civil society requires order and not chaos, as we presently endure differing standards of conduct and morality that are unequally applied depending on where you live and who you are.
- Effective Governance—corrupt, bloated, and inefficient governance creates societal rifts. Government at every level is rife with duplications, overreach, corruption, and the trappings of superiority that bureaucrats and elected officials all too frequently possess in believing they know best.
- Meritocracy—the distinction between Equity and Equality has been derailed on purpose. Equality should guarantee an equal start for those who put forth the requisite effort. Equity is the Marxist belief in everyone being equally poor in the end. The government’s role is to encourage us to be our best through sound fiscal and ethical policies. All collective endeavors fail when strivers determine their reward for their efforts will be no better than that of the worst malingers.
- The Presidency—more than a few colonists desired a kingfor our new republic. Our early history is rife with failed communities run on the collectivist model that failed. Instead, our country adopted the idea of a strong President, not above the law, but as George Orwell wrote in Animal Farm…”All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” It was understood that a strong Presidency with exceptional power could and would act decisively at critical times, being a bit “more equal.” This concept is now more true than ever, with the government gridlocked so much of the time.
- Shared Sacrifice—few things have been as destructive as Democrat’s attempts to split us up along our various fracture lines, including race, economic station, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. Every citizen should have the same rights and responsibilities as another. We teach envy and greed by favoring one group over another and subsidizing favored groups. Everyone must contribute to the country; only age or infirmity should be potentially exempted.
- America Must be the Free World’s Leader—by default, one country or another always will. With our house in order, we stand to gain the most (or lose) if we abdicate our responsibility to provide good order and leadership for the rest of the world. Our understanding of history should teach us what happens when America recedes into the shadows; eventually, trouble finds us. To be proactive and strong is the superior course.
- Debt—no nation can survive by selling its debt to nations and individuals beyond its ability to repay it. We must live within our means, no matter how inhumane the consequences of doing so may first appear. What waits for us otherwise is the equivalent of walking along a dark path with an abyss inevitably waiting for us. Debt is for short term situations, not paying our daily bills.
- Education—we are not educating our children while the rest of the world is. We know what the problem is: a toxic combination of teacher’s unions and public officials that accept children being deprived of an education that we pay extravagantly for but don’t receive. It rises to the level of criminality when you consider how much we spend and how little Johnny receives in return. We need educated youth to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
- Equal Rights?—Should non-citizens possess the same rights as citizens? If necessary, let’s have a plebiscite on this question. Unless we want to be a magnet for the poor, sick, uneducated, and old from all over the world, we must have standards for who we accept into this country, which must further the aims of our country. Defining a second tier of rights for non-citizens is reasonable and necessary.
You may have your own list. There are at least 50,000 cost centers in our federal government. If we are ever to get a handle on our family finances, it begins here, alongside a set of priorities such as those above that dictate the hard choices we must make if we are to make it through the next fifty years. Our choices and priorities are effectively endless; time is not.
