A substitute teacher in Rutherford County was arrested this week and charged with public intoxication.

A Rutherford County school resource officer said Deborah Gentry, a substitute at Seigel Middle School, was believed to be under the influence of prescription medications.
It was reported after officials at the school became concerned about Gentry. The school SRO arrested her and she was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

The school district released the following statement: “The individual will not be permitted to return to any of our schools. It’s an unfortunate situation, and the principal sent a message to all parents this morning to keep them informed.”
A release from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said that no students were in any danger.
