An illegal alien was arrested in Davidson County last week and is now facing charges of aggravated assault, aggravated arson, and attempted murder in conjunction with his alleged involvement in a number of different incidents over the course of the last few months.

44-year-old Walter David Rivera Morel was arrested last Thursday for criminal trespassing. While he originally provided law enforcement officials with a fake name, police soon correctly identified him and realized he was wanted on ten different warrants.

Morel was first identified as one of two individuals suspected of pouring gasoline on the door of a Madison Park home and setting it on fire. A woman was inside with her three children at the time. A witness who tried to confront Morel on the scene says shots were fired at his vehicle before the pair fled.

Morel was also wanted for beating a man on Murfreesboro Pike on April 21. The assault allegedly took place during an argument over a vape. The victim was shot as he tried to escape.

Detectives say Morel confessed to setting the December fire as he was being interrogated.

He faces five charges of aggravated assault, four counts of aggravated arson, and one count each of attempted homicide, criminal impersonation, and criminal trespassing.

Morel was previously charged in Davidson County with driving without a license. He was sentenced to time served and ordered to pay $177.87 in court costs.

He was added to the Metro Nashville Police Department’s “Most Wanted” fugitives list back in January for the fire incident.

Morel is currently in the Downtown Detention Center on a $752,000 bond. Inmate records show that Morel also has an Immigrant Detainer Hold. He will remain in custody until he is released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

An ICE Detainer most likely means that Morel is in the country illegally.
