Tennessee Stands is not only the watchdog of the legislature, but also a force to reckon with if you are a Tennessee legislator. Their network of grassroots activists across the state has enormous influence on public policy. At any given time, they can mobilize thousands of conservative activists to petition house and senate members on policy issues.

Each year, Tennessee Stands tracks multiple bills of interest and advises its followers on the content and consequences of proposed legislation. This year they tracked 110 bills of interest and reported on each one. Their focus has been on, but not limited to, abortion, constitutional issues, consumer affairs, education, election laws, government operations, gun rights, health, immigration, and property rights.

By all standards, the 2025 legislative session was a rough one. The founder of Tennessee Stands commented on the contentious environment that was created by the special called session designed to focus on school vouchers in his annual post-session video address. House and Senate leadership did not get a favorable review.

“As always, leadership has their own list of the great exploits they’ve apparently accomplished over the last few months. Our assessment does not give such a glowing review. If you talk to conservative legislators in the halls of the Cordell Hull building, they’ll tell you much the same. This legislative session was a beating.” – said Gary Humble, Tennessee Stands

The organization not only tracks legislation, but they also score individual legislators on their performance. A link to their scoring system is provided here.
