Some Tennessee residents had the opportunity to see twelve military veterans running the American Flag across the country as they made their way through the Volunteer State last week.

The veterans are running the Old Glory Ultra Relay, taking the flag from San Diego to Washington, D.C., in an effort to raise $1 million to go towards veterans’ health. They have raised around $750,000 to date. The relay will also set a world record.

According to the group’s website, “The relay will challenge the limits of human endurance, traversing diverse terrains and weathering all conditions, day and night. That’s right! The flag never stops moving.”

The group passed through Clarksville and Nashville before making their way through Crossville and into Knoxville on Thursday.

State Senator Becky Duncan-Massey (R-Knoxville-District 6) asked residents of her area to stand on Parkside Drive to show their support for the runners.

The team then ran through Morristown, Bristol, and Kingsport Friday before leaving the state. They reached the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Sunday afternoon, traveling nearly 3000 miles in sixteen days.
