HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mr President! The birthday of the 47th president of the United States comes, as I write, at the end of another week of fighting the lies, for him and us. Over here, it’s been the usual daily diet of lies about the economy, energy (Net Zero), covid, migration, deportations, drugs and Northern Ireland protests, through to assisted suicide and abortion. It’s a state of lying, I mused last week, that’s so endemic that people hardly notice it. The MSM still takes government announcements at face value, arguing the pros and cons maybe, but without ever challenging the fundamental lies they are based on.
They’d rather focus on that ‘mad dictator’ Donald Trump. Take Freddie Gray, editor of the Spectator US, who last week chose to deplore Trump ‘blurring of the lines of reality’! That made me laugh. Has Freddie forgotten about the four year ‘reality’ lie that was Joe Biden, a lie that, up until Trump’s presidential campaign, was so blurred that only now are we getting the full truth about it?
Underlying all this is the deeper moral philosophical trap into which the so-called right-wing press have fallen. What always counted as ‘good’ for decades, today has become bad. Bernard Carpenter’s article yesterday nailed it: ‘I very much doubt I’m alone in finding myself unwittingly on the far right. I suspect it happens to the very best of people – honest, liberally minded men and women who have spent their lives rejecting bigotry and intolerance of any kind.’
Bernard writes from the US. At least there they have a leader who is doing his damndest to reverse this moral inversion.
What ought to be bothering our so-called right-wing press, I fumed, is the relentless battle the now 79-year-old president has to wage against the Democrat/Deep-State-inspired lawfare aimed to stymie each and every one of his critical executive orders, never minding his democratic mandate. He’ll have to fight every step of the way through to 2028, as Simon Dolan reports.
If anyone deserves a party, it’s this 79-year-old. Not a view shared by the Guardian (hardly to my surprise). Looking to see whether anyone else in the media was offering the president birthday felicitations, I came across this gem, ‘Tanks, flypasts, missiles: what to expect at Trump’s “dictator chic” military parade’. It’s a ‘paean’ of unadulterated prejudice, smears and sneers:
‘It will be a parade fit for a king – which is precisely why critics worry what message it will send the rest of the world about the future of democracy in America. This is a parade to aggrandise Donald Trump’s ego. No one who knows either Trump or his pattern of behaviour would think for a minute this is anything else.’
Really? I think most people who know him would think the reason for Trump’s decision to ‘up’ the 250th anniversary of the United States Army was not his birthday but exactly what he said: ‘We want to show off a little bit.’ To get out his MAGA message that the US is no longer a pushover. It happened to coincide with his birthday. God, you could say, was smiling on the Donald again. He needs to. For straightforward coverage of what looked to be a splendid event, see The Hill.
I wish we were still capable of having more than the uniforms, fancy hats and horses on parade – a real patriotic army with double the manpower, up-to-date tanks and aircraft to show off. Not the rump that we have that is only fit for ceremonial. As an ex-Army wag said to me at the time of the Queen’s funeral, ‘You have just seen our Army’. They were all there.
Starmer continues to dodge the bullet on defence and everything else despite plummeting popularity. Where’s the big take down of him? Of his now ‘trademark’ daily inversion of the truth? We continue to do our best. Ewen Stewart’s summation of Starmer’s lies, while Reeves spends and the economy dies, is a must read.
I gather the man we are made to endure as PM is off to the US, so they are bringing forward the launch of Baroness Casey’s rape gangs audit to Monday. How convenient.*
Will these politicians ever be called to account, I wondered, for this and all the other cover ups and lies they have spun? Like the one going on for years that drug use can be managed safely. Well, no it can’t. That’s the lie that Tony Blair’s ‘harm reduction’ policy promoted and by the NHS ever since. When state-sponsored drug addiction methadone programmes were shown not to work (associated with more deaths than the heroin for which it was prescribed as a treatment) what did the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs do? They endorsed them. Its members along with the rest the drug liberalising British ‘deep state’ and the progressive left media, at best discounted and at worst demonised, dissenters like me and Peter Hitchens. ‘Criminalising’ drug use was the problem they claimed – not that there was ever much of that going on – not drug use.
So, what came next as the drug problem refused to go away? Drug testing units rolled out at summer raves, so kids could be reassured their drug taking was safe. Ha! Drug users, their partners in crime and their families (really responsible people!) doled out naloxone (an emergency antidote for overdoses). Then the incredibly expensive NHS ‘randomised opiate injection trials’ to prove that addicts wouldn’t ‘do’ street drugs if they got the real McCoy. Injected with expensive medical diamorphine for free by friendly NHS nurses in clinical settings. Did it stop them using street drugs? No, of course it didn’t.
Some of you may have seen the latest government sponsored wheeze in the papers – Scotland’s de facto legalised heroin shooting gallery ‘pilot’. It’s been going just six months, and guess what? Scottish drug deaths have soared. 308 drug deaths between January and March, 33 per cent more than in the final three months of last year, a 44 per cent for males, Glasgow having by far the highest number of cases.
Read the side effects here and feel sorry for the medical and cleaning staff working at The Thistle. Will it be closed? Not if this feel good tribute to a sadly deluded former Glasgow addict and ‘drug reformer’ is anything to go by. He was 48. His tragedy and many others like him is the lie perpetuated by those in charge –medics as well as politicians – all detailed and warned about in TCW’s pages here.
Sorry, this has all got rather heavy. But it’s something of an ‘allegory’ for the whole state of our society.
To end on a more cheerful note, I was really boosted to be messaged on WhatsApp by a friend yesterday: ‘I see you get a glowing mention for TCW and you in today’s Telegraph!’ Really! I don’t believe it, I said. I finally found the source.

Incredibly kind words about me and TCW from Annabel Croft in this week’s ‘Saturday interview’ with her. A rare and very special positive endorsement for me and TCW in the MSM. And yes, I am glowing.
